Eleven young people from Fairbridge North Manchester have been working with The Waterways Trust, British Waterways and Rochdale Council on the Building Bridges project since November 2009. The young people have now created a special exhibition of artwork based on the heritage of the region’s canals.

To see the artwork head to the Littleborough Coach House. The exhibition is open to members of the public from Monday 19th April until Friday 4th June (Monday – Friday 1:30pm-4pm, Saturday 11am-4pm)

Canal art

Here are some of the latest photos from the Building Bridges project workshops. Some great art has been created by the participants over just a few weeks. We are now eagerly awaiting the artists designs for the final piece which we should get a glimpse of at the end of this month. Watch this space.

Building Bridges

The Waterways Trust, British Waterways and Fairbridge have just launched Building Bridges: The Creative Canal project, a really exciting initiative supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund to encourage young people to get involved and learn about canal heritage.  We are working with a group of young people and artists Paul and Brian to create heritage themed art for the Rochdale Canal. Here are a few photos from our visit to the canal and first art workshop.
